Water shortages hit 12 provinces

More than 7,000 villages in 12 provinces have been hit by water shortages since Oct 1, officials have reported.
Chatchai Promlert, director-general of the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department, said on Sunday that 12 provinces are drought affected: Kalasin, Sakon Nakhon, Udon Thani, Bung Kan, Mukdahan, Nong Khai, Nong Bua Lamphu, Maha Sarakham, Yasothon, Amnat Charoen, Nakhon Phanom and Roi Et.
Mr Chatchai said major reservoirs across the country currently held 51,761,000 cubic metres of water, or about 74% of capacity. At this time last year, the reservoirs had 13,466,000 cubic metres more of water.
