Govt promises flood-free future

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra today holded a special cabinet meeting to review the budget for restoring flood-damaged public facilities and to prevent duplication of projects proposed by various agencies.
Ms Yingluck said she had instructed all provincial governors to oversee post-flood relief and recovery efforts.
She also told the Interior Ministry to coordinate and integrate flood relief and recovery operations among all concerned ministries to help flood victims in Bangkok.

Flood death toll now 693
A total of 693 people were confirmed dead and three people were missing in the floods that have inundated the upper part of the country since July 25 and hit southern provinces recently, the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department said on Monday.

Warning: Heavy rain, flash floods
The Southern Region Meteorological Centre on Monday issued a warning for people in the eastern coast of the South to prepare for widespread scattered rain with heavy falls in some areas and the danger of floods today and tomorrow.
There will also be strong wind-generated 2 to 4-metre-high waves in the Gulf of Thailand. All shipping should proceed with caution and small boats should keep ashore today and tomorrow, he warned.

Bangkok schools to open tomorrow
The reopening of 91 schools in Bangkok will take place on Tuesday after they have been closed since October due to the floods, Bangkok Metropolitan Administration city clerk Charoenrat Chutikarn said.l
