Chatuchak fire destroys book stalls
A fire destroyed several book stalls at Chatuchak weekend market overnight, but the cause of the blaze was not yet clear, Pol Maj-Gen Methi Kusolsarng said on Thursday.

The SRT (the State Railway of Thailand), which owns the land, took back the management of the market from the BMA on Jan 2 after the city refused to pay the new rate demanded for an extension of the lease.

Floods, landslides in South

Yala residents started cleaning up their flood-hit homes on Wednesday as the water receded and Nakhon Si Thammarat airport reopened, following days of heavy rain brought by storms pummeling the South.

Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department chief Wiboon Sanguangpong said heavy rain and flash flooding had wreaked havoc in nine southern provinces since Dec 31, but the situation was abating.
